Lanka Premier League 2021 coaches belong to Sri Lanka as well as from foreign countries which will help in development of Sri Lankan upcoming talent.

Umar Gul – Coach of Galle Gladiators

Former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul has been appointed as head coach of Galle Gladiators for LPL 2021 edition starting from 5th December, 2021. Umar Gul replaced former wicket keeper Moin Khan who served as head coach of Galle Gladiators last season.

This will be Umar Gul’s first high profile stint as coach. As a players Umar gul represent Pakistan in 237 international matches and taken 427 wickets in all formats of the game.

Herschelle Gibbs – Coach Colombo Stars

Former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs is appointed to coach Colombo Kings in LPL 2020. He was in Sri Lanka to join commentary panel of LPL 2020 but Dav Whatmore decision to opt out of coaching job made Gibbs land into this job.

Previous former England Batsman Kabir Ali was appointed as Colombo Kings coach but he tested positive for COVID-19 and had to leave his slot.

Interestingly Gibbs is actively searching for various coaching jobs and has been associated with Sylhet Thunder in the same capacity. LPL 2020 coaching can help Gibbs in strengthen his credentials as a coach.   

Owais Shah – Coach of Dambula Giants

Former England international cricketer of Pakistani ethnicity is head coach of Dambula Giants in inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League 2020.

Owais Shah was from few of the early breed of cricketers who preferred to play as a T20 specialist around the globe and was part of almost all major franchise t20 cricket leagues including IPL and Big Bash.

This will be Shah’s 2nd stint as coach for any team as he previously served as interim coach of UAE national team. Thorough professional with overall experience of playing 842 cricket matches will definitely help Owais Shah grooming as a coach.

Thilina Kandamby – Coach of Jaffna Kings

Former Sri Lankan batsman Thilina Kandamby will serve as head coach of Jaffna Kings for 2021 edition of LPL. He coach Jaffna Stallions last year and made them the champions. Kandamby represented Sri Lanka in 39 ODI’s & 5 T20I matches during his 10 year cricket career for Sri Lanka.

Not many people aware of the fact that he is the most successful T20I captain of Sri Lanka with 100% success rate. He won his only T20I as an in charge against England when he took over the job form injured Tillakaratne Dilshan on tour of England.

Before coaching assignment of Jaffna franchise he is also serving as Head Coach of Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Sri Lanka. 

Hashan Tillakaratne – Coach of Kandy Warriors

Former Sri Lankan captain and batsman who was one of the main members of Sri Lankan emergence as global cricket force in 1990’s Hashan Tillakaratne named as coach of Kandy Warriors.

Veteran of more than 280 international cricket matches for Sri Lanka, Hashan Prasantha Tillakaratne also served as Sri Lanka U19 coach and various positions in Sri Lankan cricket.

He is an active politician and in news since retirement from international cricket in 2004 both for good and bad reasons in Sri Lankan cricket.

Local man with extensive knowledge and respected man in Sri Lankan cricket Hashan Prasantha Tillakaratne is the best man for this job.
