Pakistani Cricketers in Colombo Stars

Colombo stars picked 2 veterans cricketers from Pakistan in LPL 2021. Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad and fast bowler Mohammad Irfan became the part of Colombo Kings during the drafts. Both Shehzad and Irfan will make their LPL Debut as they did not feature in the inaugural edition of the event.

Ahmed Shehzad has been in some good form recently. He recently scored 344 runs in 11 matches in the National T20 Cup 2021 of Pakistan. He averaged 31 with a strike rate of 128. Ahmed has over 6000 runs in the T20 format but currently not in reckoning for Pakistan national team.

The 39-year-old Mohammad Irfan was a surprise pick by the Colombo stars. A pacer playing cricket in this age is something unusual. However, Mohammad Irfan was one of the most economical bowlers of PSL 2021. He picked 10 wickets in 10 games at an impressive economy rate of just 6.77. Irfan has 157 wickets in 150 T20 games which tells that he is indeed an experienced campaign.

Pakistani Cricketers in Galle Gladiators

Galle Gladiators have their major chunk of foreign cricketers from Pakistan in LPL 2021. Mohammad Hafeez, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Anwar Ali and Mohammad Amir will play for Galle Gladiators. This can be due to Galle Owner is from Pakistan.

Amir picked 11 wickets in LPL 2020 and was 5th highest wicket taker of the tournament. Recently, Amir had a quiet PSL 2021 and he suffered an injury during CPL 2021. Since then he hasn’t been seen playing professional cricket.

Sarfaraz Ahmed on the other hand has scored plenty of runs in PSL 2021 as well as National T20 Cup 2021. Sarfaraz Averaged 39 in National T20 Cup 2021 scoring 198 runs in 8 matches. He was also 6th highest run scorer in PSL 2021 scoring 321 runs with an average of 45. With wicket-keeping advantage Sarfaraz becomes one of the best picks for any side in this format.

Mohammad Hafeez has struggled with his form recently. Hafeez was picked by Colombo Kings last year but didn’t play due to national duty. Hafeez has an experience of 345 T20Is and his spin bowling ability will be an added advantage in Sri Lankan conditions.

Anwar Ali featured for Dambulla Vikings in LPL 2021. Anwar picked 9 wickets for the Vikings in LPL 2021 and was their best bowler of the tournament. Anwar Ali recently scored 185 runs in National T20 Cup 2021 with an average of 37 and an explosive strike rate of 144. He is valuable asset for any side in the finishing role.

In the National T20 cup 2021, Sohaib scored 194 runs at an average of 27 and strike rate of 148 before getting a back injury. Sohaib is since then out of cricketing action. However, if he gets fit, he is in the form of his life and he will certainly create an impact in his first ever LPL Season.

Pakistani Cricketers in Jaffna Kings:

Jaffna Kings retained Usman Shinwari and Shoaib Malik for this year’s LPL T20 as well. Jaffna also added Wahab Riaz in their squad, who featured for Kandy Tuskers previously.

Shoaib Malik is the most experienced T20 Cricketer from Pakistan. Shoaib Malik was adjudged Man of the Match in the final of LPL 2020 for Jaffna Kings. Shoaib Malik has also been in red hot form lately. He smashed the fastest fifty of World T20 2021 against Scotland and has been scoring runs heavily in PSL as well as National T20 Cup 2021.

Wahab Riaz is once again someone vastly experienced in the shortest format of the game. Wahab Riaz was the 2nd highest wicket taker of PSL 2021. Not only does he have 361 wickets in T20 Cricket, he also has strike rate of 133 with the bat which makes him a valuable batsman down the order and even as pitch hitter.

Usman Shinwari has been out of action recently due to an injury. However, on 16th November 2021, Usman Shinwari revealed that he has recovered well and he retired from red-ball cricket to focus on white-ball cricket.
